Michigan Men to Open 2026-27 Season with CSL Match One, TEAM BE BETTER; Invite

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team (0-0) will open the 2026-27 season on Thursday (Sept. 24) at Match One of the new College Swimming League at FMC Natatorium in Westmont, Ill. The meet starts at 5:30 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on ESPN+. The Wolverines will return home Friday (Sept. 25) to host the TEAM BE BETTER; Invitational at 3 p.m. inside Canham Natatorium, streamed on B1G+.
Notes
• U-M will take part in the inaugural season of the College Swimming League, with 14 Wolverines set to compete. Michigan is one of 12 teams participating in the league's debut season, which features a new competition format with 14-athlete rosters.
• Michigan brings back 17 members of last season's squad and welcomes seven newcomers, including five freshmen (Archie Biggin, Samuel McCaffrey, Aiden Moy, Oliver Shao, and Lucas Young), sophomore Boldizsar Magda (Hungarian Swimming Federation) and junior Jaxon Bowshire (Texas A&M).
• Junior Lorne Wigginton was named a Big Ten Swimmer to Watch after earning All-Big Ten second-team honors and collecting two All-America honors at the NCAA Championships last season.
• McCaffrey enters his first season at Michigan as the Wolverines' Big Ten Diver to Watch after winning the three-meter synchronized diving title at the World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships.
• Under head coach Matt Bowe, the Wolverines enter the season ranked No. 8 in the CSCAA preseason poll, bolstered by the return of Wigginton, Colin Geer, Antoine Sauve and the addition of transfer Bowshire.
• Michigan brings a strong history against its CSL opponents, owning a 3-0 record against Louisville, a 74-15-2 mark against Ohio State and a 47-39-3 record against Indiana. The Wolverines will face the Cardinals for the first time since the 2017-18 season, while meeting the Buckeyes for the 92nd time and the Hoosiers for the 90th.
• The TEAM BE BETTER; Invitational will feature Hope and Calvin in a non-scoring meet. The annual event honors the life and legacy of late Michigan swimmer Ian Miskelley while continuing his message of supporting mental health awareness and encouraging others to "be better" for themselves and those around them.
• Following Friday's meet, the Maize and Blue will return to action on Friday, Oct. 9, hosting Pittsburgh in a dual meet at Canham Natatorium.
