COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Michigan men's golf team closed the Robert Kepler Invitational on Sunday (April 12), firing a final-round 282 (-6) to climb into a tie for eighth place with an 862 (294-286-282) 54-hole total at Columbus Country Club.
The Wolverines showed steady improvement throughout the weekend, trimming eight strokes off their opening-round score and posting their best round of the tournament in the finale to finish alongside Michigan State and Kent State.
RJ Arone led the way for Michigan with a 54-hole total of 211 (73-69-69). With back-to-back rounds of 69 (-3), Arone recorded his seventh sub-par 54-hole total of the season at 211 (-5). It also marked the fifth time in eight events he has led the Wolverines and his fourth top-10 finish of the year.
Dean Muratore made a strong move in the final round, carding a 69 (-3) behind five birdies to jump 25 spots and tie for 38th at 217 (75-73-69). His closing round matched Arone for Michigan's low round of the day.
Nilay Naik tied for 44th at 218 (74-70-74), while Johnny Solis finished 70th at 224 (72-75-77). Jordan Hwang rebounded from a first-round disqualification to post rounds of 74 and 70 over the final 36 holes.
Minnesota won the team title at 833 (-31), with host Ohio State finishing second at 842 (-22). Individually, Minnesota's Jack Crousore and Abilene Christian's Gregoire Hoyeau shared medalist honors at 207 (-9).
Michigan will wrap up its regular season next weekend at the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational (April 18-19) before turning its attention to the postseason, which begins with the Big Ten Championships in early May.
