
Wolverines Set for Return Trip to Florida for Gators Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's golf team closes its spring break with a trip to Gainesville, Florida, competing at the Gators Invitational, Friday through Sunday (March 6-8). The three-day, 54-hole event marks the sixth straight appearance in Florida's home event The event will be played at the Mark Bostick Golf Course, set up as a par 70 and measuring 6,002 yards.

• The Wolverines will compete in a strong 14-team field featuring Campbell, Clemson, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida International, No. 7 Florida, Georgia Southern, Miami (Fla.), No. 13 North Carolina, No. 25 Oklahoma, South Alabama, South Florida and Virginia.
• Michigan brings five starters and an individual to Gainesville, as senior Lauren Sung and sophomore Thomasine Bartholdson lead the Wolverines' lineup. Freshman Jaymie Ng will make her first collegiate start, while freshman Reese Ng and senior Mara Janess round out U-M's starting five. Senior Sydney Sung will compete as Michigan's individual.
• Michigan will make its sixth appearance at Florida's signature event, the Gators Invitational. The Wolverines opened their history at the tournament with a third-place finish in 2020, though the 2021 edition was canceled due to COVID-19. U-M returned in 2022 to tie Florida for the team title with a score of 851 (-13). In 2023, the Wolverines placed 10th in a rain-shortened 36-hole event before improving to a tie for sixth in 2024. Last season, Janess led Michigan with a tie for 14th as the team finished eighth.
• Michigan has consistently delivered strong individual showings at the Gators Invitational, placing at least two players in the top 25 at every appearance. The pinnacle came in 2022 when Ashley Lau earned medalist honors with a program-record 54-hole total of 203 (-7).

• In the race for the team scoring title, senior Lauren Sung leads with a 73.06 stroke average. Freshman Vanessa Zhang, who has not competed this spring due to injury, sits just behind at 73.09, while senior Mara Janess ranks third at 73.76. As a whole, the Wolverines sport a 74.63 per round average.
• After back-to-back solid individual outings, freshman Jaymie Ng will make her first collegiate start at the Gators Invitational. After missing the fall due to injury, she made her collegiate debut as an individual at the Puerto Rico Classic, carding a 223 (73-72-78). She followed with another 223 (77-77-69) at the Spartan Suncoast Invitational to earn the start in Michigan's third spring event.
• Reese Ng is one of two Wolverines to start all six events (along with Lauren Sung) and is averaging 74.88 in her first season. She posted a career-low 70 (-2) in the second round of the Illini Women's Invitational and recorded a career-best 54-hole total of 221 (73-74-74) at the Puerto Rico Classic.
• The Wolverine Invitational provided a preview of the U-M Golf Course, which will serve as one of six NCAA regional sites in May -- the second time in four years under head coach Jan Dowling. In her 13 seasons at the helm, Dowling has guided Michigan to eight NCAA postseason appearances, including four trips to the NCAA Finals.
