
Michigan Qualifies 10 Swimmers for NCAA Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Ten student-athletes from the No. 4-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team were selected Wednesday (March 4) to compete at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
Eight Wolverines qualified for multiple events as Hannah Bellard, Lexi Greenhawt, Letitia Sim and Bella Sims paced the team with three events each.
Bellard will race in the 200-yard butterfly, 400-yard IM and 500-yard freestyle. Bellard shined in all three events at the Big Ten Championships, winning gold in the 200 fly and 500 free and setting a new Big Ten record in the butterfly event.
Greenhawt will battle in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle along with the 100-yard backstroke. Greenhawt finished in the top 10 in all three of those events at the Big Ten Championships.
Sim will hit the pool for the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard IM. Sim swept the breaststroke events at the conference championships and placed third in the 200-yard IM.
Sims is set to race in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke and the 400-yard IM. Sims dominated the 100-yard backstroke and the 400-yard IM, winning both events at the Big Ten Championships. Sims was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Championships as the highest point scorer.
Stephanie Balduccini qualified for the national championships in the 100- and 200-yard freestyles while Leila Fack will compete in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.
Big Ten Champion Brady Kendall will seek a national title in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. Marian Ploger qualified for the two long-distance events, swimming the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle.
Rounding out the Michigan qualifiers are Rebecca Diaconescu and Milla Drakopoulos. Diaconescu will swim in the 1,650-yard freestyle, while Drakopoulos will make her NCAA debut in the 200-yard backstroke.
The NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships are slated to begin on March 18 at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga.
