
Michigan in Fifth After Day One of NCAA Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team used two top-eight relay finishes on Wednesday (March 18) to score 56 points and sit in fifth place after the first day of the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships inside McAuley Aquatic Center.
Rebecca Diaconescu and Marian Ploger got the meet started with the 1,650-yard freestyle. Diaconescu posted a time of 16:16.61, while Ploger clocked a 16:17.66 to finish 25th and 26th, respectively.
In the evening session, the team of Bella Sims, Letitia Sim, Brady Kendall and Lexi Greenhawt hit the water for the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet combined to post a time of 1:33.18 to take sixth overall.
Sims, Hannah Bellard, Stephanie Balduccini and Christey Liang closed out the first session with a fourth-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 6:48.04.
Michigan will be back in action Thursday (March 19) for the second day of the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. Preliminaries at the McAuley Aquatic Center will get started at 10 a.m., with finals commencing at 6 p.m.
