
Wolverines to Trek to Myrtle Beach for Michael A. Marino Classic

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Continuing its spring schedule, the University of Michigan men's golf team will travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to compete in the Michael A. Marino Classic, set for Sunday through Tuesday (March 15-17). Formerly known as the General Jim Hackler Championships, the three-day, 54-hole tournament will feature a 16-team field and will be played at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club (par 72, 7,370 yards).
Notes
• The 16-team field includes Baylor, Charleston, Coastal Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast, Furman, Kansas State, Kent State, Liberty, Little Rock, Louisiana, Louisville, Michigan, Missouri, NC State, North Florida and UNLV.
• Michigan will travel five starters to the Marion Classic: sophomore Dean Muratore, sophomore RJ Arone, sophomore Nilay Naik, freshman Jordan Hwang, and junior Jason Gordon.
• Through seven events, Michigan has recorded 50 sub-par rounds and carries a 72.31 individual stroke average. As a team, the Wolverines are averaging 282.25 per round, with 13 of their 20 team scores finishing under par.
• Michigan has produced 18 sub-par tournament finishes across seven events and owns a 216.43 average for 54 holes -- just a half stroke over par. Leading the way was Muratore's program-record 196 (-14) at the Jim DeLapa Collegiate, marking the second sub-200 tournament total in U-M history.
• Muratore has posted 12 of his 20 rounds at or below par and leads Michigan with a 70.25 scoring average. He fired a career-low 64 (-6) in the second round of the Jim DeLapa Collegiate on his way to his first career individual title. Muratore has recorded five under-par 54-hole totals in six events this season and holds a 207.60 tournament average. His only over-par finish was a 214 (+1).
• Arone has 14 of his 20 rounds at or below par and sits three shots behind Muratore (1405 to 1408) for the team scoring lead with a 70.40 stroke average. He recorded five sub-par totals and one even par tally in seven events this season, with five top-20 finishes. He posted a career-low 205 (-11) at the Island Resort Intercollegiate.
• Naik has made an immediate impact for the Wolverines, averaging 72.15 strokes per round with five sub-par rounds and four even-par efforts. One of three players to start all seven events, Naik has recorded three under-par 54-hole totals, highlighted by a career-best 208 (-8) in his Michigan debut at the Island Resort Intercollegiate.
• In his first season, Hwang has continued to impress with a 72.65 scoring average across six starts. He has posted seven sub-par rounds, including a career-low 67 (-5) in the second round of the Island Resort Intercollegiate -- his first collegiate tournament. Hwang has also recorded three under-par 54-hole totals this season.
