
Wolverines Drop Big Ten Finale at No. 22 Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team claimed four bouts, including three with bonus points, but fell just short in a 19-17 loss at No. 22 Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 15) at UW Field House in its Big Ten Conference dual finale.
Graduate student Taye Ghadiali, ranked fifth in the latest InterMat poll, secured a top-10 victory with a 2-1 overtime decision against ninth-ranked Braxton Amos at heavyweight. Ghadiali drew a stall warning in the third period, and when Amos backed out of bounds for the third time in sudden victory, he was awarded the deciding point. Ghadiali improved to 19-2 on the season and has claimed four straight ranked wins, three against top-10 opponents. He finished 8-0 in Big Ten duals.
Graduate student Dylan Ragusin, ranked 26th nationally, answered a Wisconsin bonus win with one of his own at 141 pounds, rolling to a 19-3 technical fall against Carson Exferd. Ragusin scored five takedowns, added a four-point leg turk late in the second period and finished the bout with a single leg at the 6:00 mark. It was his second bonus win of the weekend.
The Wolverines dropped one-score decisions in swing matches at 125, 149 and 157 pounds, putting Wisconsin in control entering the final two bouts.
Redshirt sophomore Beau Mantanona and redshirt freshman Brock Mantanona delivered bonus wins at 174 and 184 pounds, respectively, to close out the dual but could not overcome the deficit. Beau, ranked 11th at 174, earned a 14-4 major decision over Luke Condon with four takedowns and a stall point while pressing for a fall. Brock, ranked seventh at 184, scored six takedowns and added a two-point tilt en route to a 20-5 technical fall against Matthew Jens at the 4:10 mark.
The Wolverines (8-6, 4-4 Big Ten) will close out their dual-meet slate next Sunday (Feb. 22) when they travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich., to face in-state foe Central Michigan at 1 p.m. at McGuirk Arena.
