
U-M to Compete Across Davis Hemery Valentine Invitational, Heartland Invite

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team will split between a pair of meets this weekend, heading to Boston, Mass., for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday (Feb. 13) at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center, and Indianapolis, Ind., for the Heartland Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 13-14) at the Fall Creek Pavilion.

• Action at the Heartland Invitational will begin at 1:10 p.m. on Friday with the long jump and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday with the shot put. The distance squad will get started in Boston, Mass., with the 800-meter run at 10:42 a.m.
• Michigan remains No. 1 in the Great Lakes Region in the latest USTFCCCA rankings.
• The shot put event squad (Abigail Russell, Elizabeth Tapper, Trinity Franklin and Janey Campbell) continues to sit at No. 2 in the NCAA with an average distance of 15.84 meters (51 feet, 11.5 inches). The 800-meter run event squad (Emmry Ross, Stephanie Bertram, Coraline Haggarty and Penelopea Gordon) is sixth in the nation with an average time of 2:06.30.
• Michigan hits the road after hosting the Michigan Invitational on Feb. 7, honoring its 15 seniors after the meet as part of Senior Day.
• Freshman Keyanna O'Tey ran a personal-best 7.45 seconds in the 60-meter dash preliminaries before besting that with a 7.44 in the finals for a third-place finish. The finals time is tied for No. 8 on the program performers list.
• The Wolverines took three of the top-five spots in the shot put, with Russell throwing a career best of 16.86m (55-3.75) for the win. Tapper finished second (16.53m/54-2.75) while Franklin threw a season best of 15.36m (50-4.75) to finish fourth. Campbell threw her way to a personal-best 14.45m (47-5) and a sixth-place finish.
• Maya Anderson won the long jump (5.87m/19-3.25) and came just 0.02 meters shy of her personal best, while Gabriella Newman cleared 1.75m (5-8.75) in the high jump, placing fifth and finishing just 0.01 meters from her personal best.
• Rylee Tolson (4:49.70), Caroline Beiting (4:51.80) and Mara Longenecker (4:52.12) went 1-2-3 in the mile run. Tolson and Beiting's times were season bests, while Longenecker's was a personal best.
• The Wolverines will return home on Friday, Feb. 20, to host the Silverston Invitational at the U-M Indoor Track Building in the team's indoor home finale.
