ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Big Ten Conference announced Monday (Oct. 5) that University of Michigan men's basketball senior guard Elliot Cadeau and sophomore guard Trey McKenney have been selected to the 2026-27 Preseason All-Big Ten team.
The Wolverine backcourt duo makes Michigan one of three programs with multiple selections on this year's 11-member preseason team. Cadeau and McKenney also become the 25th and 26th Wolverines in program history to earn preseason All-Big Ten honors.
Additionally, the selections mark the fourth time Michigan has had multiple players named to the preseason team, joining Juwan Howard and Jalen Rose (1993-94), Mitch McGary and Glenn Robinson III (2013-14), and Hunter Dickinson and Caleb Houstan (2021-22).
Cadeau returns to direct the Wolverines after helping Michigan capture the 2026 NCAA national championship and earning NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors. Starting all 40 games in his first season in Ann Arbor, the 6-foot-1 point guard averaged 10.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and a team-best 5.9 assists per game while helping Michigan finish a program-record 37-3.
Cadeau recorded 234 assists, giving him back-to-back 200-assist seasons and pushing his career total to 615. He was at his best during Michigan's championship run, posting seven double-figure scoring games in nine postseason contests. Cadeau capped the season by matching his career high with 19 points in Michigan's 69-63 victory over UConn in the national championship game.
McKenney earned a spot on the preseason team after an impressive freshman season that earned him a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. The Flint, Mich., native played in all 40 games, averaging 9.9 points and 2.8 rebounds in 22.1 minutes per game.
The 6-foot-4 guard led Michigan with 68 three-pointers while shooting 39.1 percent from long range and 89.5 percent from the free-throw line. McKenney scored in double figures 26 times, highlighted by a career-best 21 points and six three-pointers in his collegiate debut against Oakland.
During Michigan's NCAA Tournament run, he helped the Wolverines to six consecutive victories and grabbed a career-high eight rebounds in the national championship game against UConn.
