
Wolverines Ready for Match-Play Event Honoring Barbara Nicklaus

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In a unique twist to the fall season, the University of Michigan women's golf team will travel alongside the U-M men's golf team to Dublin, Ohio, for the Barbara Nicklaus Cup, Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 5-6). Hosted by Ohio State at famed Muirfield Village, the four-team match-play event gives each program three matches, with the best overall record claiming the Nicklaus Cup. Michigan and Ohio State will be joined by Charlotte and Clemson. Muirfield is scheduled to be set up as a par 72 and 6,362 yards.
Notes
• The men's and women's teams will play three matches over the two-day event, with Michigan's six-man men's squad leading off each match followed by the women's team. The Wolverines open Monday (Oct. 5) against Clemson, with the men starting at 7:45 a.m. and the women at 8:39 a.m. off the 10th tee. U-M faces host Ohio State in the afternoon, starting at 12:30 p.m. (men) and 1:24 p.m. (women) off the first tee. Michigan closes Tuesday (Oct. 6) against Charlotte, beginning at 7:45 a.m. (men) and 8:39 a.m. (women) off the 10th tee.
• Michigan's six-player lineup features junior Thomasine Bartholdson, sophomores Vanessa Zhang, Reese Ng and Jaymie Ng, and freshmen Amanda Revuelta and Guia Acutis. All six Wolverines will make their collegiate match-play debuts.
• The Barbara Nicklaus Cup will mark Michigan's first match-play competition since the 2018 East and West Match Play Challenge at U-M Golf Course. The Wolverines went 1-1, defeating Texas A&M, 3-2, before falling to Oregon, 4.5-0.5.
• Michigan has competed in four prior match-play events, participating in the East and West Match Play Challenge from 2015 through 2018. In its last two appearances, U-M went 1-3, including a 1-1 mark in its most recent event in 2018.
• Bartholdson has led Michigan in each of its first two events, finishing runner-up at the Badger Invitational before tying for 11th at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational. She carries a team-best 72.50 scoring average through six rounds.
• Bartholdson has beaten or tied 137 of 148 opponents (91.6 percent) through two events. She has also gotten stronger as tournaments progress, averaging 74.00 in opening rounds, 72.50 in second rounds and 71.00 in final rounds. Her season-low 68 (-4) came in the final round of the Badger Invitational.
• Michigan has been at its best in the opening and closing rounds through two events, averaging 296.00 in first rounds and 298.00 in final rounds, compared with 310.00 in the second round. The Wolverines' season-low 283 (-5) came in the opening round of the Badger Invitational.
• Zhang made a steady climb in her season debut at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational, improving each round with scores of 77, 76 and 72. Her final-round 72 (E) helped her tie for 15th at 225 (+9).
