ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The third-ranked University of Michigan men's basketball team (18-1, 8-1 Big Ten) opens a pivotal week of conference play by hosting undefeated and seventh-ranked Nebraska (20-0, 9-0 Big Ten) at a sold-out Crisler Center on Tuesday (Jan. 27). The Wolverines will then close the week on the road at 10th-ranked Michigan State (18-2, 8-1 Big Ten) on Friday (Jan. 30). Tipoff against the Cornhuskers is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will stream on Peacock, with Paul Burmeister, Nik Stauskas and Cayleigh Griffin on the call.
Notes
• U-M holds a 23-5 all-time mark against Nebraska and is 12-1 in Ann Arbor against the Cornhuskers. Nebraska won its first game in Ann Arbor the last time it visited Crisler Center, an 85-70 victory on March 10, 2024.
• The last time U-M played in a matchup of two top-10 teams was nearly five years ago (4 years, 10 months, and 14 days), when the fourth-ranked Wolverines fell to ninth-ranked Ohio State, 68-67, in the 2021 Big Ten Tournament semifinal.
• For the second time in the 29-game series history, Michigan and Nebraska meet as ranked programs. The only other meeting came in the 1992 Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, where the sixth-ranked Wolverines, led by Chris Webber's 20 points, defeated the 20th-ranked Cornhuskers, 88-73.
• Michigan's 18-1 start matches the best 19-game mark in program history, tying three other Wolverine teams (2012-13, 2018-19 and 2020-21). The 2013 and 2019 squads each pushed their starts to 20-1 before taking a second loss.
• Michigan wraps up a three-game homestand against Nebraska following wins over Indiana (86-72) and Ohio State (74-62). U-M then hits the road for a grind to the finish, with seven of its final 11 games away from Ann Arbor, including a matchup with Duke in the Duel in the District in Washington, D.C.
• After a loss to Wisconsin snapped U-M's 14-game winning streak, the Wolverines have rebounded with four straight double-digit wins -- at Washington (82-72, +10), at Oregon (81-71, +10), vs. Indiana (86-72, +14) and vs. Ohio State (74-62, +12).
• Michigan continues to build one of the most dominant seasons in program history, highlighted by 15 wins by 10-plus points, 10 by 20-plus, eight by 30-plus, six by 40-plus (a Big Ten record), and one by 50-plus (102-50 vs. La Salle).
• Aday Mara has scored in double figures in four straight games, highlighted by his second 20-point outing of his career with 20 at Washington, while shooting 75 percent (21-for-28) during the stretch.
• Over his last three games, Mara has also taken a step forward at the free-throw line, shooting 60.9 percent (14-for-23) after hovering around 40 percent for much of the season.
• Mara (2.7 bpg) has blocked a shot in every game this season (51 total), recording multi-block performances in 16 games, including 14 of his last 15, and stacking four straight games with three-plus swats.
• Elliot Cadeau (5.2 apg) is two assists shy of a third straight season eclipsing 100 assists (98) and continues to close in on the 500-assist milestone (479).
• Trey McKenney has reached double figures in 12 games while averaging 9.9 points per contest, ranking second on U-M with 30 three-pointers and leading the Wolverines at the free-throw line at 87.5 percent (42-for-48).
• Morez Johnson Jr.'s 68.7 field-goal percentage leads the Big Ten and ranks third nationally. He averages 13.7 points per game, has scored in double figures 13 times, and has delivered the first four 20-plus point performances of his career.
