ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The fourth-ranked University of Michigan men's basketball team (15-1, 5-1 Big Ten) will close out its West Coast swing heading to Eugene, Ore., on Saturday (Jan. 17) to take on Oregon (8-9, 1-5 Big Ten) at the Matthew Knight Arena. Tipoff with the Ducks will be at 1 p.m. PT with a national broadcast on NBC Sports with John Fanta, Nick Bahe and Elise Woodward on the call.
Notes
• Michigan opened its two-game Pacific Northwest swing in Seattle against Washington (Jan. 14). In its first game in Seattle in 32 years, U-M grabbed the lead after the first media timeout and never let go, cruising to an 82–72 win. The Wolverines now head to Eugene to face Oregon (Jan. 17).
• Michigan holds a 5-3 record against Oregon, with a 1-1 mark in Eugene.
• Last season in Ann Arbor: Using five double-figure scorers and converting 25 points off turnovers, Michigan fended off a late Oregon rally for an 80-76 win at Crisler Center (Feb. 5). Will Tschetter led the way with 17 points in just 17 minutes, while Nimari Burnett added 13.
• Last time in Eugene: Despite a career-best 33 points from Dug McDaniel, Michigan fell, 86-83, in overtime (Dec. 2, 2023). With the game tied at 83, Jackson Shelstad hit a deep three with 1.4 seconds left; McDaniel's last-second half-court attempt missed as the Ducks sealed the win.
• Michigan ranks third nationally at 93.8 points per game, second with a +25.1 scoring margin, sixth in rebounding (43.2 rpg), second in defensive rebounds (31.8) and seventh with 20.0 assists per game (second in the Big Ten to Purdue, 20.9).
• Michigan's scoring balance has five Wolverines averaging double-figures. The Wolverines are the only team in the Big Ten with three players averaging at least 6.5+ rebounds per game.
• Finishing 10-for-11 from the field, Aday Mara recorded his second career 20+ point game at Washington, falling just two points shy of his career high of 22 against Wisconsin (Jan. 1, 2025). It marked the sixth time in the last 10 games that a Michigan player has scored 20 points.
• With his third double-double of the season at Washington, Morez Johnson Jr. pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds, pushing him past the 300-rebound mark for his career (314).
• Michigan's "Big Three" -- Yaxel Lendeborg (14.6 ppg), Johnson (14.3) and Mara (10.8) -- combine to account for 40 percent of U-M's offense.
• Lendeborg and Johnson are tied for the U-M lead with 12 double-figure scoring games and have combined for 463 of Michigan's 1,501 points this season (30.8 percent).
• In addition to leading U-M in scoring, Lendeborg averages 6.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting an efficient 53.0 percent from the floor.
• Johnson is shooting 67.2 percent (88-for-131), best in the Big Ten and fourth nationally. He has 229 points (14.3 ppg) in 16 games with the Wolverines, surpassing his 209 points (6.9 ppg) in 30 games at Illinois last season.
• Mara has recorded at least one block in every game this season, totaling 41 blocks with multiple blocks in 13 contests -- including 11 of his last 12 games. He opened the year with back-to-back, career-best five-block performances, leads the Big Ten at 2.56 blocks per game and ranks 12th nationally.
• For the first time in his 90-game career, Elliot Cadeau was held scoreless. Despite not scoring at Washington, he led the Wolverines with six assists.
• Needing three points to reach 1,000 for his collegiate career, Burnett cut to the basket and finished a no-look pass from Mara to reach the milestone. Burnett scored seven points at Washington and now has 1,004 for his career. In three seasons at U-M, he is 211 points shy of 1,000 as a Wolverine.
