
Herger Named Big Ten Freshman of the Year

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Brendan Herger of the University of Michigan men's track and field team has been named the 2025 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year, as announced by the conference on Wednesday (June 18).
Herger finished ninth in the 1,500-meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last week with a time of 3:47.88 and was the only freshman to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the event. He finished just 0.60 seconds behind winner Nathan Green of Washington and 0.15 seconds from a podium finish to earn second team All-America honors.
The Northville, Mich., native finished fifth at the Big Ten Championships last month with a time of 3:54.21 and holds the No. 4 time (3:38.72) in the 1,500-meter run on the program performers list. He also has the No. 10 time in the 800-meter run on the program performers list (1:47.96).
Herger is Michigan's first Big Ten Outdoor Freshman of the Year since Nick Willis in 2003.
