
U-M to Head to Michigan State for Spartan Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team will stay close to home on Friday (April 4), heading to East Lansing, Mich., for the Spartan Invitational. The track events at Ralph Young Field will begin with the 5,000-meter run at 10:30 a.m., while the field events will open with the shot put at noon.
Notes
• This will be the third weekend of outdoor competition for the Maize and Blue after opening the season at the USF Alumni Invitational on March 21-22 and splitting last weekend between the Raleigh Relays and the Battle on the Bayou.
• The Wolverines cracked the top 10 in three event groups in the season's first USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings, with the shot put squad opening at No. 2, the 800-meter run squad at No. 3, and the 5,000-meter squad coming in at No. 8.
• At the Raleigh Relays, Mary Caroline Heinen posted the No. 4 time on the program performers list in the 10,000-meter run (33:21.92). Rylee Tolson (16:28.48) and Gabbie Michael (16:40.70) both saw personal bests in the 5,000-meter run, with Michael shaving 46 seconds off her previous best.
• At LSU, Elizabeth Tapper finished third in the shot put with a personal best of 17.22 meters (56 feet, 6.5 inches). The mark is No. 2 on the program performers list and 0.02m shy of the program record.
• Emma Yungeberg (51.02m/167-4) and Clare McNamara (39.89m/130-10) threw for season bests in the javelin throw. Abigail Russell threw for 54.12m (177-6) in the hammer throw, coming within 0.76m of a top 10 program mark.
• Sidney Green won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.85 seconds, 0.38 seconds off her personal best, while Samantha Hastie finished sixth in the 1,500-meter run (4:16.61) to come just 0.21 seconds from her personal best. Both were season-best times.
• Freshmen Alexandra Brigham (1,500-meter run), Kourtney Rathke (pole vault) and Iliana Downing (pole vault) are expected to make their outdoor debut in maize and blue.
