FORT WORTH, Texas -- Freshman Sophia Diaz represented the University of Michigan women's gymnastics team at the NCAA Individual Event Finals on Thursday night (April 17) at Dickies Arena.
Diaz recorded a 9.7125 on the vault in her first NCAA nationals appearance.
In her freshman season, Diaz was named second-team All-Big Ten and earned a spot on the All-Freshman team competing on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise.
Diaz won six event titles in her first season, including three on vault, two on uneven bars and one on floor. She notched eight scores of 9.900 or better, recording career-high 9.900s on uneven bars and floor while scoring a career-best 9.950 on vault to earn her spot in the NCAA individual championships.
