
Wolverines to Begin B1G Action at Nebraska, Iowa

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team (7-3, 0-0 Big Ten) will kick off Big Ten action this week, heading to Nebraska on Friday (March 7) to face the Huskers (10-1, 0-0 Big Ten) at 5 p.m. CST and Iowa (6-3, 0-0 Big Ten) on Sunday (March 9) for a 10 a.m. CDT start.
Notes
• The No. 4-ranked Wolverines begin Big Ten action this week, heading to Nebraska and Iowa for a pair of matches. The Big Ten slate will consist of 13 regular-season matches with the addition of the four West Coast teams this season.
• U-M has won 28 straight Big Ten regular-season matches after winning its second straight Big Ten championship last year behind an 11-0 record. U-M's last Big Ten loss came to Ohio State on April 1, 2022.
• Michigan is kicking off Big Ten action against the two teams it ended the regular season with last year. U-M picked up a pair of 4-0 wins over Nebraska and Iowa at the VTC during the final weekend of regular-season play.
•  The Wolverines are 12-0 all-time against Nebraska after recording a 4-0 shutout win over the Huskers last season at the VTC. The victory clinched Michigan's outright Big Ten title.
• U-M has won 21 consecutive matches against Iowa, shutting out the Hawkeyes last season at the Varsity Tennis Center. U-M has not allowed a point to Iowa in the last four matches between the teams.
• Michigan moved to No. 4 in this week's ITA team rankings. The ITA switched to computer rankings last week, as the Wolverines came in at No. 3 in the first edition of those. Â
• Julia Fliegner vaulted up to No. 2 in this week's singles rankings behind a 24-4 overall record. It is the highest she has ever been ranked. She is 8-0 in dual-match action and has 104 career singles wins at Michigan.
• Joining Fliegner in the singles rankings are No. 25 Piper Charney, No. 31 Lily Jones, No. 80 Reese Miller and No. 95 Emily Sartz-Lunde. U-M has three ranked doubles teams.
• The Wolverines have been solid at the top of the lineup, with Fliegner and Charney combining to go 15-1 at the top two spots. Fliegner is 7-0 at No. 1 and 1-0 at No. 2, with Charney holding a 7-1 mark at No. 2.
• Head coach Ronni Bernstein enters her 18th season as the head coach, holding a 530-195 overall coaching record. She is currently eighth nationally among active coaches in wins. Bernstein ranks 18th all-time in victories.
• Michigan returns home for a pair of matches next weekend, hosting Ohio State (March 15) and Penn State (March 16). Both matches are slated for noon starts at the Varsity Tennis Center.
