ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team opened the weekend with competition split between the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C., and the Battle on the Bayou in Baton Rouge, La., on Friday (March 28).
Battle on the Bayou
In the 200-meter dash, Payton Smith finished 14th with a time of 23.71. Sidney Green captured the 400-meter hurdles title with a season-best time of 57.85, just 0.38 seconds off her personal best.
Samantha Hastie placed sixth in the 1,500-meter run, posting a season-best 4:16.61 — just 0.21 seconds off her personal best.
Maya Anderson recorded a personal best of 5.67 meters (18-7.25) in the long jump to finish 11th.
A pair of Wolverines registered season-best marks in the javelin. Emma Yungeberg placed third with a throw of 51.02 meters (167-4), while Clare McNamara finished 18th with a throw of 39.89 meters (130-10).
Abigail Russell came within 0.76 meters of a top-10 program mark in the hammer throw, finishing sixth with a distance of 54.12 meters (177-6).
Raleigh Relays
Rylee Tolson (16:28.48) and Gabbie Michael (16:40.70) both recorded personal-best times in the 5,000-meter run, finishing 58th and 80th, respectively. Michael's time was more than 46 seconds faster than her previous best.
In the 10,000-meter run, Mary Caroline Heinen finished 13th in 33:21.92 — the fourth-fastest time in program history.
Michigan will conclude the weekend at the Battle on the Bayou on Saturday (March 29) in Baton Rouge, La., beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT with the discus throw.
