
Tapper Posts No. 2 Program Shot Put Mark to Close Out Battle on the Bayou

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team closed out its weekend at the Battle on the Bayou hosted by LSU, with Elizabeth Tapper's No. 2 program shot put mark leading the effort on Saturday (March 29) at Bernie Moore Stadium.
Tapper improved on her outdoor shot put mark of 17.06 meters, throwing for 17.22m (56 feet, 6.5 inches) to finish third. The mark is No. 2 on the program performers list, just 0.02m short of the program record.
Gabriella Newman tied her personal best in the high jump, clearing 1.70m (5-7) to finish fourth.
BreeAna Bates matched her season-best time of 11.90 seconds (+3.3m/s) in the 100-meter dash, but the race was not wind-legal.
In the 800-meter run, Samantha Hastie (2:06.23) and Stephanie Bertram (2:06.89) finished fifth and eighth, respectively, with Hastie posting a season-best time to come just 0.29 seconds shy of her personal best. Alyna Lewis finished 12th with a personal-best time of 2:09.16 while Coraline Haggarty finished 15th (2:09.64).
The Wolverines will return to Michigan to compete in the Spartan Invitational hosted by rival Michigan State on Friday (April 4) at Ralph Young Field.
