OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Sophomore Ella Stephenson delivered a clutch two-out, bases-clearing double in the sixth inning to lead the University of Michigan softball team to a 5-2 win over Maryland on Friday night (March 21) at Devon Park, securing a two-game sweep over the Terrapins.

After giving up a leadoff solo home run in the bottom of the first, sophomore Erin Hoehn settled in, retiring the next six batters, four by strikeout, to keep the deficit at 1-0. Freshman Lauren Putz tied the game in the third with an RBI double that scored Indiana Langford.

Michigan (22-8, 2-0 Big Ten) took the lead in the fourth. Ellie Sieler led off with a single to center and advanced to second after Maddie Erickson was hit by a pitch. After a fielder's choice moved both runners up, Hoehn reached on a fielder's choice and an error at the plate allowed Sieler to score to make it 2-1. Hoehn then returned to the circle and struck out the side in the bottom half to preserve the lead.

Lauren Derkowski took over in relief in the fifth and worked out of a jam with one out and two runners on, keeping Maryland (13-14, 2-3 Big Ten) off the board.

The Wolverines broke it open in the sixth. Erickson led off with a single, and with two outs and the bases loaded, Stephenson ripped a double to the gap, clearing the bases and pushing Michigan's lead to 5-1.

Derkowski finished the final three innings, allowing one run to pick up the save. Hoehn earned her 11th win of the season after striking out seven in 4.1 innings.

Michigan will return to action on Saturday (March 22) against Wisconsin. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT at Devon Park, with the game streaming live on B1G+.
