
Sutherland Sets 400m Program Record to Close Out NCAA Indoor Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- A trio of Wolverines from the University of Michigan women's track and field team closed out the indoor season at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday (March 15) at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex. U-M tied for 28th place and finished with eight points.
Oregon claimed the national championship with 55 points, while Georgia (39) and USC (35) finished second and third.
Savannah Sutherland ran a personal-best and program-record 51.23 seconds in the 400-meter dash, placing fourth in her best indoor championships finish.
Aasia Laurencin finished her career in maize and blue with a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.09).
In her NCAA Championship debut, sophomore Elizabeth Tapper earned a 12th-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 16.90m (55 feet, 5.5 inches).
Sutherland and Laurencin earned first team All-America honors, while Tapper earned second-team honors.
The Wolverines will open their outdoor season in Tampa, Fla., at the USF Alumni Invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 21-22.
