CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan water polo team wrapped up its East Coast road trip with a 14-3 loss to No. 12 Harvard on Sunday (Feb. 23) inside Harvard's Blodgett Pool. Brooke Ingram led the Wolverines with two goals, both coming in the first half.
Michigan struck first as Ari Karampetsou assisted Maiken Pardon who found the back of the net to give U-M an early 1-0 lead. However, Harvard responded with three unanswered goals before Ingram cut the deficit to one. The Crimson tacked on another goal to close the first quarter with a 4-2 advantage.
Harvard's offense continued to apply pressure, netting six more goals in the second quarter. Ingram capitalized on a defensive gap to score her second of the game, but the Wolverines trailed 10-3 at halftime.
The second half was all Crimson, as their defense shut out Michigan while adding four more goals to secure the 14-3 victory. Despite generating chances, U-M struggled to convert, repeatedly hitting the crossbar.
The Maize and Blue will turn its attention to the Convergence Tournament in Ponoma, Calif., where the team will face Biola on Friday, Feb. 28, at 12:45 p.m. PT.
