
U-M Opens First Chance Meet with Multiple Personal Bests

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan swimming and diving program started strong on the opening day of the First Chance Meet on Saturday (Feb. 15) at Canham Natatorium.
In the morning session, Jaden Ficklen and Josean Massucco both logged personal-best times in the men's 500-yard freestyle. Ficklen finished first with a time of 4:23.23, while Massucco touched the wall at 4:24.28.
In the men's 200-yard IM, Jacque Wenger logged a new season-best mark, clocking a 1:45.98 to take first. Freshman Rian Herrmann also logged a new top time for the 2024-25 campaign at 1:48.29.
Both Ozan Kalafat and Maciej Gabrys set new career bests in the 50-yard freestyle to close out the morning's events. Kalafat finished first in 20.31 seconds, and Gabrys logged a time of 20.53
In the evening session, Sophia Jahn set a new personal best in the women's 100-yard butterfly, finishing first with a time of 54.29.
Inbar Danziger logged a new fastest career mark in the men's 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 47.66. Gabrys set a season-best time, clocking a 47.96. Rian Herrmann registered a time of 3:49.61 in the 400-yard IM to post a new personal best in the event.
Tyler Tannenberger clocked a 53.52 in the 100-yard breaststroke to set a new 2024-25 personal standard. Cameron Luarde logged 53.65, beating his previous career best by .05 seconds. Wenger wrapped up the first day of competition with a 47.29 in the 100-yard backstroke, a new season best for the senior.
Michigan will conclude the First Chance Meet on Sunday (Feb. 16) at 10 a.m. inside Canham Natatorium.
