Notes
• The Wolverines now have nine wrestlers ranked nationally at their respective weight classes, including six in the top 15 according to InterMat: No. 9 Dylan Ragusin (141), No. 5 Lachlan McNeil (149), No. 15 Dylan Gilcher (165), No. 13 Beau Mantanona (174), No. 7 Brock Mantanona (184) and No. 5 Taye Ghadiali (Hwt).
• Redshirt sophomore Dylan Gilcher owns a 4-0 record up at his new weight class of 165 pounds with two ranked wins and two bonus wins. Gilcher defeated a pair of top-15 opponents at the National Duals with an 8-4 decision against Missouri's 11th-ranked Maxx Mayfield and a 4-1 decision against 14th-ranked Nicco Ruiz. He debuted at No. 15 in this week's updated InterMat rankings.
• Redshirt freshman Brock Mantanona also shot up -- and into the top 10 -- in the updated rankings at 184 pounds, moving up seven spots to No. 7 after defeating Nebraska's sixth-ranked Silas Allred 10-8. Mantanona is 3-1 on the season. His lone loss is to Missouri's now second-ranked Aeoden Sinclair.
• Graduate student Taye Ghadiali is 3-1 this season and has earned bonus points in all three of his wins with two technical falls and a major decision. Two of those have come against ranked opposition -- a 17-2 tech against Arizona State's No. 23 David Szuba and a 17-7 major over Missouri's No. 25 Jarrett Stoner.
• Columbia is 1-1 on the season after splitting duals last weekend, narrowly falling 22-19 to Indiana last Friday (Nov. 14) before cruising past Hofstra 32-6 on Sunday (Nov. 16). Two Lion wrestlers are ranked nationally by InterMat -- No. 26 Lorenzo Frezza (141) and No. 29 Nick Fine (174). Michigan owns a perfect 5-0 record in the all-time series against Columbia, most recently claiming a 28-9 win at home last season.
• Virginia enters the weekend with a 2-1 record and wins against LIU (39-3, Nov. 8) and Kent State (27-6, Nov. 15) and a 21-17 loss to Lehigh (Nov. 8). The Cavaliers currently have five wrestlers ranked at their respective weight classes, most notably No. 18 Colton Washleski (157) and No. 18 Nick Hamilton (174). Michigan narrowly leads the all-time series against Virginia, 3-2, and has claimed the three most recent meetings, including a 29-12 decision on the road last season.
• Six different wrestlers have made debuts in Wolverines' starting lineup so far this season, and all six were victorious in U-M's dual opener against VMI (Nov. 9). Freshmen Gauge Botero and Eren Sement made their collegiate debuts at 133 and 141 pounds, respectively, while graduate students Diego Sotelo (125), Lachlan McNeil (149) and Taye Ghadiali (Hwt) all made their official Michigan debuts. Redshirt freshman Hayden Walters, who opened his college career with back-to-back redshirts after coming in with injury, made his long-awaited varsity debut at 197 pounds.
• Michigan will be without graduate student Dylan Ragusin for just a bit longer as he continues to come back from last year's season-ending injury suffered at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in December. Ragusin, who took fifth place at 133 pounds in 2024, is a four-time NCAA qualifier and owns an 85-30 career record. Ragusin will bump up to 141 pounds this season and currently lists as the No. 9-ranked wrestler at the weight. Junior Sergio Lemley, U-M's returning 141-pounder, is slated to redshirt the 2025-26 season. He has also moved up in weight and will compete unattached at 149 pounds.
