ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Max Dahlin and Bjorn Swenson of the University of Michigan men's tennis team are set to compete in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, which get underway on Tuesday (Nov. 18) at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
Notes
• The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, in the second year of a two-year pilot program, will begin on Tuesday (Nov. 18) and run through Sunday (Nov. 23) at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
• All matches will be best-of-three sets with no-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, win by two) played at six games all. In doubles, a 10-point match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
• The last time the NCAA Championships were held at the USTA National Campus was in the spring of 2023, when Ondrej Styler reached the NCAA Singles Championship final. Styler went on a 5-0 run before falling to Georgia's Ethan Quinn in the title match.
• Dahlin qualified for the 64-player singles field by reaching the final of the ITA Regionals in Chicago on Oct. 20. He will face Sebastian Dominko of Notre Dame in the first round on Tuesday (Nov. 19) at noon. Dahlin defeated Dominko in the ITA Regionals semifinals, dropping the first set 6-3 before rallying for a 6-3, 7-6 (12-10) victory.
• Swenson and Dahlin earned their doubles berth two weeks ago by advancing to the finals of the ITA Sectionals in Ann Arbor. The pair won three straight matches in their first competition together. As the No. 4 seed, Dahlin and Swenson will open against Aaron Sandler and Manfredi Graziani of Penn on Wednesday (Nov. 20).
• This marks the first NCAA individual championship appearance for both Dahlin and Swenson.
• Dahlin is 6-0 in singles this season, winning all five of his matches at the ITA Regionals and an additional match at the ITA Sectionals. His best win came against Dominko, ranked No. 10 in the preseason singles rankings. A redshirt freshman, Dahlin is competing in his first season for the Wolverines.
• Dahlin and Swenson are 3-0 as a duo, highlighted by a win over No. 65-ranked Peter Nad and Luis Llorens Saracho of Notre Dame at the ITA Sectionals. The pair entered the fall ranked No. 49 nationally. Swenson, a senior, owns a 47-21 career doubles record and is 4-0 against ranked opponents.
• Last season, Gavin Young and Benjamin Kittay were NCAA Doubles Championship runners-up, becoming the first duo in program history to reach the final. The pair went 4-0 with wins over No. 23 and No. 46-ranked opponents before falling to TCU's Pedro Vives Marcos and Lui Maxted in a 10-point tiebreaker.
