U-M Earns B1G Point in Draw with Rutgers

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan men's soccer team battled Rutgers to a scoreless draw on Sunday (Oct. 5) in front of a sold-out crowd at U-M Soccer Stadium.
The Wolverines controlled the game with 17 shots and five attempts on target. The U-M defense only allowed six shots with one on target -- the seventh match in which the defense has allowed fewer than 10 shots in a contest.
Isaiah Goldson was solid in goal for the Maize and Blue, notching one save and earning his fifth shutout of the season.
Michigan (6-1-3, 2-1-1 Big Ten) applied pressure early with three shot attempts in the first 20 minutes of action. U-M added four more attempts during the remaining 25 minutes of the first half and went to the locker room tied at zero, but with a 7-2 edge in shots.
Rutgers (6-1-3, 2-1-1 Big Ten) started the second stanza with two shots -- both of which were off target.
Shuma Sasaki began to make his presence felt in the match with two on-target shots that were saved by Rutgers' Ciaran Dalton in the 57th and 62nd minutes, respectively.
Michigan put together a flurry of shots in the waning moments of the match, with Sasaki and Grayson Elmquist each accounting for two shots, but none of the attempts found the back of the net.
Next up, Michigan will head east to face off against Maryland on Friday (Oct. 10) at 7:30 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
