Michigan (12-7, 2-6 Big Ten) played in front of the largest crowd in program history -- 12,707 -- surpassing its previous record by more than 4,000 people. The crowd was also the largest in the state of Michigan to watch a volleyball match.
U-M was led by Ella Demetrician, who tallied nine kills, with Allison Jacobs and Cymarah Gordon close behind with seven each. All three setters saw action, with Morgan Burke leading the way with 15 assists. Maddi Cuchran tallied a match-leading nine digs while Serena Nyambio recorded a team-leading five blocks.
Demetrician opened the match with a kill and an ace as the Wolverines worked out to a 4-1 lead. Nebraska (18-0, 8-0 Big Ten) stayed in the match, tying it at seven. A kill from Gordon kept U-M in front, but the Cornhuskers strung together two points to take their first lead of the set at 9-8.
Nyambio put U-M back in front with a kill and a block assist with Lydia Johnson at 10-9. The Huskers then went on a 5-1 run to take a 14-11 lead, but the Wolverines brought it to within one after kills from Demetrician and Gordon. Nebraska made it 23-13, before the Maize and Blue went a 4-0 run -- which had three different Wolverines record kills, and Nyambio and Demetrician combine on a block. After a Nebraska timeout, the Cornhuskers took the final two points to win the first set, 25-18.
Nebraska opened the second set on a 5-1 run, but U-M was able to cut the lead to one after a 3-0 run of their own, which included an ace from Ellie White. The Cornhuskers stayed in front, but back-to-back kills from Jenna Hanes and Jacobs brought the score back to within one at 8-7. Nebraska answered with a 9-1 run, bringing the score to 17-8. The teams traded the next couple of points as Nebraska reached 20, leading by nine. The Huskers took five of the final seven points to win the second set, 25-13.
In the third set, Nebraska opened on a 6-1 run to force an early timeout. U-M got a kill and a block from Demetrician to cut the lead to 9-6, but the Cornhuskers answered, taking the next two points. U-M went on a 4-0 run to bring the score to 11-10 -- led by an ace from Burke, and kills from Sydney Schnichels and Demetrician. The teams traded the next couple of points as Nebraska pulled away, taking an 18-12 lead. A kill from Jacobs and an ace from Camille Edwards cut the lead to 18-14, but Nebraska took four of the next five points for a 22-15 lead. Nyambio helped Michigan fight off two set points with a kill and a block with Schnichels, but Nebraska won the set 25-18 and the match.
