
Michigan to Open B1G Slate at No. 7 Penn State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (4-1, 0-0 Big Ten) will open its Big Ten slate at No. 7 Penn State (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten) on Saturday (Feb. 1) at 4 p.m. inside Rec Hall.
Notes
• The Wolverines are coming off a tri-meet sweep, earning a season-high score of 318.050 to top No. 8 Army (307.050) and No. 13 Springfield (299.550) on Jan. 18.
• Juniors Fred Richard and Zach Granados made their season debuts at Springfield. Both competed on the pommel horse, with Richard also competing on the vault and high bar.
• Richard took the vault (14.000) and high bar (13.850) titles and is ranked fifth in the nation on the high bar and tied for 10th on the pommel horse.
• Carson Eshleman continues to have a breakout freshman season, earning the parallel bars title with a score of 13.250 and the still rings title with a season-high score of 14.100. He ranks ninth in the nation on high bar (13.567) and 12th on the still rings (13.583).
• U-M's strongest event through the first three weeks of competition is the high bar, averaging 53.467 to rank third in the nation. The Wolverines are just 0.383 points behind nation-leading Oklahoma.
• Michigan ranks sixth on the still rings and parallel bars after seeing a season-high score of 53.900 on the still rings at Springfield.
• Transfer Charlie Larson is tied for seventh on floor exercise, while Aaronson Mansberger comes in at No. 4 on the pommel horse. On the parallel bars, Logan McKeown leads the nation and Kyle Walchuk is No. 10. Robert Noll is seventh on high bar.
• Penn State is 2-0 on the season, defeating Army and William & Mary at home. The Nittany Lions are fifth in the nation on the still rings and parallel bars. Matthew Underhill sits at No. 3 in the nation on the still rings (13.912), while Michael Jaroh ranks sixth on the parallel bars (13.800).
