STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team fell at No. 7 Penn State, 319.000-313.900, in its Big Ten opener Saturday (Feb. 8).
The Wolverines led for the majority of the meet, with the Nittany Lions pulling ahead by 0.400 points after vault (210.200-209.800). U-M retook the lead after big performances on the parallel bars but falls on the high bar were costly and allowed Penn State to pull ahead and take the win.
Michigan claimed four event titles and five other podium finishes. Paul Juda made his season debut, winning the still rings title.
How it Happened
Floor Exercise

Charlie Larson anchored the rotation, scoring a career-high 14.350 for the event title and a 1.450-point lead. Wolma came just 0.050 points from tying his season high. U-M leads 53.400-51.850
Pommel Horse
Logan McKeown opened the rotation with a 12.700, but a huge routine from Aaronson Mansberger (13.450) to anchor the event allowed Michigan to maintain a 1.500-point lead. Mansberger took the event title while Islam finished second (12.900). U-M leads, 103.750-102.250
Still Rings
Juda anchored the rotation to earn the still rings title (13.550), just 0.050 points better than second-place finisher Ian Raubal. PSU managed to shave 0.800 points off of the Wolverine lead, but a fourth-place finish from Carson Eshleman with a score of 13.250 allowed U-M to remain in front. U-M leads, 155.800-155.100
Vault
Penn State pulled ahead of the Maize and Blue after the fourth rotation, putting two Nittany Lions on the podium. Larson finished second with a season-high 14.100. PSU leads, 210.200-209.800
