
Michigan Set to Host No. 2-Ranked Illinois in Big Ten Battle

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team (4-2, 0-1 Big Ten) will look to bounce back from its first conference loss of the season when it hosts No. 2 Illinois (2-1, 1-0 Big Ten) on Saturday (Feb. 8) at 2 p.m. inside Cliff Keen Arena. Admission is free for all 2025 regular-season home meets.
Notes
• The Wolverines are coming off a 319.000-313.900 loss at No. 6 Penn State in their Big Ten opener last Saturday (Feb. 1).
• Graduate student Paul Juda made his season debut against the Nittany Lions, taking the still rings title (13.550) and earning podium finishes on the parallel bars and high bar. Juda leads the nation on the parallel bars (14.050), is sixth on the high bar (13.600), and is 10th on the still rings.
• Freshman Aaronson Mansberger competed in his second meet of the season, taking his first career event title on the pommel horse with a score of 13.450. Mansberger is eighth in the nation and fourth in the league on the event (13.950).
• Transfer Charlie Larson earned his second floor exercise title for the Wolverines, scoring a season-high 14.350. Larson leads the nation with an average score of 14.017.
• Evgeny Siminiuc is 11th in the nation on the parallel bars after tying for first at Penn State (14.200), averaging 13.525 on the season.
• The high bar remains U-M's best event, with the Wolverines averaging a team score of 52.388 to rank at No. 4 in the nation and No. 2 in the Big Ten. Fred Richard ranks fourth in the nation on the event (13.850), while Pierce Wolfgang is tied for 11th (13.475).
• This will be the second matchup between the Wolverines and Illini this season. Michigan faced off against Illinois at the Windy City Invitational on Jan. 18, with U-M falling 321.700-316.600.
• Illinois is 2-1 on the season, topping No. 4 Nebraska 321.300-320.800 last weekend in its Big Ten opener. The Illini lead the nation on pommel horse (54.917) and vault (56.467) and are second on floor exercise (53.567).
• Illinois' Brandon Dang (14.483) and Preston Ngai (14.033) are third and sixth in the nation on the pommel horse, respectively, while Garrett Schooley (14.350), Ian Sandoval (14.250) and Amari Sewell (14.217) come in at first, fifth, and seventh on the vault, respectively.
