OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team won the first session of the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad with a 195.925 on Friday night (Jan. 10) at the Paycom Center. No. 14 Arizona was second (195.825), followed by Clemson (195.350) and NC State (195.000).
The Wolverines took home three individual event titles on the night. Jahzara Ranger clinched her second title in as many weeks with a 9.900 on floor exercise in the anchor spot, winning the meet for U-M. Carly Bauman won the uneven bars title with a matching 9.900 and Sophia Diaz earned her first career title with a 9.850 on the vault. Freshman Sophie Parenti also had a big day for Michigan, placing third on the balance beam, while Paige Thaxton scored a 9.850 on floor and Ava Jordan put together two solid performances on vault and uneven bars.
Michigan had a solid vault performance in the first rotation with Jordan kicking off the meet with a 9.750 and Ranger going 9.800 in the second spot. Jenna Mulligan continued to build on the scores as she earned a 9.825 and Diaz anchored with a 9.850. U-M recorded a 48.950 after one rotation, leading the field into the uneven bars.
Jordan hit her second routine of the day as she tied a career-best 9.825 while Jacey Vore earned a 9.800. Bauman closed out the rotation with the 9.900 as the Wolverines held onto the lead at the halfway point with a 97.925 running score.
Parenti set the tone for Michigan on the beam in the third rotation with a 9.850 leadoff and Mulligan showed her veteran leadership in a clutch routine with a 9.825 in the fourth spot. Bauman anchored with a 9.800 and U-M held onto the lead with a 146.700 through the third rotation.
Parenti put together another stellar performance on floor with a 9.825 to start the final rotation and Thaxton went 9.850 in the fourth spot for the Wolverines. Bauman scored a 9.875 to tie for second and Ranger came up with a 9.900 to take the floor title and clinch the victory for U-M.
Michigan opens its 2025 Big Ten Conference season next Friday (Jan. 17) when it travels to Michigan State for a 6 p.m. meet at the Breslin Center.
