DEXTER, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's cross country team opened the 2024 season hosting the Michigan Open on Friday (Aug. 30) at the Hudson Mills Metropark.
The Wolverines raced against Detroit Mercy and swept the top five finishes.
Kayla Windemuller won the Michigan Open for the third straight year, posting a time of 17:46.6. Samantha Hastie ran 17:48.3 to come in second while Penelopea Gordon finished third (17:52.5). Hastie and Gordon both ran personal bests.
Graduate transfer Mary Caroline Heinen came in fourth with a time of 17:57.9 and Rylee Tolson finished fifth with a personal-best time of 17:59.6 to round out the top five finishers.
All Wolverines competing in uniform or unattached finished with a time under 21 minutes.
The Maize and Blue will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 9:30 a.m. for the John McNicols Invitational hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind.
