PARIS, France -- Three-time Olympian and former University of Michigan swimmer Siobhán Haughey grabbed her second bronze medal in as many finals, finishing third in the 100-meter freestyle on Wednesday (July 31) during the 2024 Olympic Games inside Paris La Defense Arena.
Haughey reached the podium with a mark of 52.33 seconds. The bronze medal runs brings the total of U-M medals won in Paris to five (all bronze).
Haughey cruised through qualifying for the final heat and posted the top qualifying time Tuesday (July 30) at 52.64 to earn Lane 4 in the final. In a loaded field, she started fast and was second at the 50-meter turn. The close battle ended with Haughey touching third behind Sweden's Sarah Sjoestroem (gold) and U.S. swimmer Torri Huske (silver).
Haughey's bronze marks her fourth career medal after taking bronze in the 200-meter freestyle Monday (July 29) and winning two silvers in 2021 in Tokyo. The 100-meter freestyle closes out her competition in Paris.
