
Three Wolverines Qualify for NCAAs; Five Total Headed to Eugene

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team qualified three Wolverines for the NCAA Championships at the East Preliminary Round on Friday (May 24).
Zane Forist was the first Wolverine to compete, seeing a solid mark of 56.02m (183-9) on his first attempt. The sophomore fell short of an improvement on his second attempt (55.24m, 181-3), but topped both attempts with a mark of 56.32m (184-9) in his final throw. Forist finished in 12th place, just 0.11m (0-4) ahead of the 13th place finisher, to qualify for the NCAA Championships next month.
Nick Foster ran 3:45.79 in the 1,500-meter run to finish fourth in his heat and 16th overall, while Caleb Jarema ran 8:41.33 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to finish fourth in his heat and 11th overall. Both Wolverines will advance to the NCAA Championships.
Jozef Meyers also ran the steeplechase, finishing 43rd with a time of 9:30.19.
In the triple jump, Tianhao Wei finished in 14th with a personal-best mark of 15.75 (51-8.5). Berachiah Ajala finished in 19th with a personal-best mark of 15.67m (51-5).
Dubem Amene started in the 400-meter dash but did not finish.
The Maize and Blue will now send five Wolverines to the NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted by Oregon on June 5-8. In addition to Forist, Foster and Jarema -- Tom Brady (10,000-meter run) and Jake Wall (long jump) will also be heading to the West Coast.
