
Bickersteth, Young Qualify for NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Two members of the University of Michigan men's tennis team, seniors Gavin Young and Jacob Bickersteth, have earned individual berths to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship it was announced Tuesday (April 30).
Young earns his second consecutive bid to the NCAA Singles Championship, while he and Bickersteth earned a bid to the NCAA Doubles Championship.
This is Young's third time being selected to the Doubles Championship, and with three different partners. He qualified in 2022 with Ondrej Styler and in 2023 with Andrew Fenty. An All-American in doubles, Young and Fenty reached the quarterfinals and finished ranked No. 5 in the ITA doubles rankings, the highest ranking in school history for a doubles team.
Young and Bickersteth are 12-7 in doubles this season, including a 10-7 mark in dual play. The duo went 7-1 in the Big Ten and are ranked a season-high No. 17. They have three wins over ranked duos this season and strung together six straight victories this spring.
Young reached the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship in 2023, after originally being selected as an alternate. He has been ranked in the ITA singles all season and is currently No. 19 with an 18-12 overall record and 12-8 dual mark. Young went 5-1 in the Big Ten and 12-10 against ranked opponents this season. He had an eight-match win streak and reached the semifinals of the ITA All-American Championships.
The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will be held Monday through Saturday, May 20-25 after the conclusion of the team championship at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla.
