• The Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic is one of the oldest sporting events in all of women's intercollegiate athletics, with the 2024 tournament serving as its 52nd edition. The event began in 1973 as the Georgia Invitational before becoming the Women's Southern Intercollegiate from 1977-94. In 1995, the tourney was renamed in honor of Liz Murphey, UGA's Hall of Fame golf coach and long-time Senior Woman Administrator.
• U-M will travel the five starters to the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. Fifth-year senior Hailey Borja, freshman Sidney Yermish, senior Monet Chun and sophomores Sydney Sung and Lauren Sung will make up U-M's starting five, while graduate Mikaela Schulz will travel as an individual.
• In U-M's last event, Borja posted back-to-back top-10 finishes, shot a career-low 67 twice, helped U-M to a T6th finish at the Gators Invitational, and tied for runner-up in the impressive field at the Valspar Augusta Invitational. The Maize and Blue posted wins over six top-25 teams, including a 19-shot win over No. 1 Wake Forest.
• Borja is scheduled to make her 47th consecutive career start in Georgia as she has not missed an event in her five-year career. Borja ranks tied for seventh all-time for career events and starts. She has the chance to catch U-M's all-time leader, Laura Olin (50; 2002-05). In addition to Borja, Chun is set to make her 21st straight start.
• So far this season, Michigan has had a Wolverine finish among the top 10 in all seven events. Borja leads U-M with four, while Chun has three to pace the Maize and Blue. Borja has a season-best tie for fifth at the Stanford Intercollegiate (Oct. 20-22), while Chun tied for runner-up honors at the Nexus Collegiate (Feb. 12-14). For their careers, Borja has 18 top-10 finishes (46 events), while Chun has 10 (37 events).
• Chun continues to hold the U-M scoring lead with a career-best scoring average 72.06. She has carded six sub-par tallies, including tying for U-M's season-low -- twice with her 67 (-5) at the Glass City Invitational (final) and the Ruth's Chris Invitational (first). Borja is close behind with a career-best pace 72.76 per round. She leads U-M with seven sub-par tallies and, like Chun, has also twice fired a U-M season-low and career-low 67 -- in the final round of the Gators Invitational (March 1-2) and second round of the Valspar Augusta Invitational.
• Along with Borja, Yermish is one of two Wolverines to start all seven events. Yermish is averaging 74.29 per round with a trio of sub-70 tallies -- a career-low 68, twice in the final round of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational (Oct. 9-10) and the first round of the Valspar Augusta Invitational. He added a 69 (-1) in the final round of the Gators Invitational.
• For the third time this season and the seventh time in their careers, twins Sydney and Lauren Sung will be in the U-M starting lineup together. This season, Sydney has averaged 75.86, while Lauren has posted 74.89 per round.
• Over U-M's spring break training trip, Borja received a call and was invited to her second Augusta National Women's Amateur (April 3-6) at Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club. If she advances, she will play a final round at the prestigious Augusta National. In 2022, she advanced to the final round after posting a 147 (71-76) 36-hole total. Firing a 74 (+2) on Augusta National, she tied for 12th. [ Full Release ]
