
Four Double-Figure Scorers Lift Michigan to Upset of No. 11 Wisconsin

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team snapped a five-game losing skid, led by a quartet of double-figure scorers, with a 72-68 victory over No-11 ranked Wisconsin on Wednesday night (Feb. 7) at Crisler Center.
Leaders and Best
Dug McDaniel led the way for Michigan, scoring 16 points. Tarris Reed Jr. scored 12, grabbed six rebounds and blocked three shots. Will Tschetter added 11 points and Terrance Williams II dropped 10 and pulled in six rebounds.
The Turning Point
Trailing by four points, 48-44, with just under 14 minutes remaining in the second half, Michigan went on an 8-0 run to take a 52-88 advantage. The run was part of a stretch that saw the Wolverines outscore the Badgers 14-3 after the 13:13 mark and never let go of the lead.
First Half
After giving up the first points of the game, Michigan (8-15, 3-9 Big Ten) went on a 6-0 run and capitalized off three early Wisconsin turnovers to lead 6-3 at the 18:22 mark. The Wolverines cashed in on three-straight field goals to hold a three-point lead (16-13) with 13:47 to go.
McDaniel provided Michigan with a spark midway through the half, accounting for seven of the 10 points Michigan had in a 10-1 run over two and a half minutes to give U-M a 29-20 lead with 7:28 left in the half.
Wisconsin (16-7, 8-4 Big Ten) made three straight field goals, taking advantage of a two-and-a-half minute Wolverines scoring drought to cut its deficit to one, 34-33, with just under two minutes to play. Tschetter converted on a three-point play to extend the U-M lead to four and Michigan entered the break leading 37-33.
Second Half
Early in the second half, U-M missed five straight field-goal attempts and Wisconsin capitalized, taking its first lead since the 15:24 mark of the first half, 43-42, with 16:13 left in regulation. The Wolverines erased a four-point deficit by making three-straight field goals and going on an 8-0 run to lead 52-48 at the 11:23 point.
Tschetter connected on his second three-pointer of the game to extend the Michigan lead to nine points (63-54) with five-and-a-half minutes remaining. U-M built on its lead, but Wisconsin hit four of its next five field-goals attempts to pull within three, 67-64, with 2:08 on the clock.
Wisconsin called timeout with Michigan ahead 69-66 with 43 seconds remaining and missed a shot after the stoppage in play. U-M went up four points, 70-66, after McDaniel made one of two free throws, but Wisconsin countered with two from the charity stripe and trailed 70-68 with 11 seconds left. McDaniel iced the game by hitting both of his free throws as Michigan defeated Wisconsin 72-68.
What's Next
U-M will travel to Lincoln, Neb., to face Nebraska on Saturday (Feb. 10) at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Â Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. CST, and the contest will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.

• Olivier Nkamhoua grabbed a season-best 12 rebounds on the night and leads U-M at 7.3 rebounds per game.
• McDaniel has scored in double-figures in 19 of the 20 games he has played in this season.
• After snagging six rebounds tonight, Williams' career total has now surpassed 400 (404).
• Reed is in the misdt of eight straight games with five-plus rebounds.
