Michigan Falls at Nebraska After Slow Start

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nimari Burnett scored a team-high 18 points, and the Wolverines outscored the Cornhuskers 30-25 in the second half, but the University of Michigan men's basketball team fell to Nebraska 70-55 on Saturday (Feb. 10) at Pinnacle Bank Arena after a tough shooting night.
Leaders and Best
Burnett scored 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting while grabbing five rebounds. Tarris Reed Jr. and Terrance Williams II scored nine points each, while Reed pulled in nine rebounds and Williams grabbed five.
First Half
The Wolverines fell behind 12-7 in the first five minutes with Burnett scoring five of them off a jumper and a three-pointer. After missing its first two field-goal attempts, Nebraska (17-8, 7-7 Big Ten) made five of its next seven to lead by five and started a 13-0 scoring run for the Cornhuskers.
Following the early Burnett three-pointer, U-M missed its next seven shots and was held scoreless for more than four minutes. Michigan (8-16, 3-10 Big Ten) found itself with a 15-point deficit, trailing 22-7 with 11:20 to play in the first. After a 16-3 Nebraska run, the Wolverines were in a 30-point hole, 43-13, at the five-minute mark.
 U-M managed to hold Nebraska scoreless for the next four minutes, going 0-for-7 from the field. After a three-pointer to beat the buzzer from Jaelin Llewellyn, Michigan finished the half on an 8-0 run and outscored Nebraska 12-3 over the final five minutes but trailed 45-25 at the half.
Second Half
Three minutes into the second half, Nebraska converted on three straight field goals, going on a 7-0 run to lead U-M 55-29. The Wolverines responded with a 6-0 run and held Nebraska scoreless for more than three minutes. The Cornhuskers missed their next four shots and U-M chipped away at its deficit, trailing 55-35.
Following the run, U-M went cold, going 2-for-11 while Nebraska made five in a row to lead by 25, 68-43, with 8:40 left in the game. Michigan went on another hot streak and fought its way to a 12-2 scoring run to cut the score to 70-55 with 4:52 left, but that was about all Michigan was able to muster for the remainder of the game and fell 79-58.

The Wolverines will travel to Champaign, Ill., for a matchup against Illinois on Tuesday (Feb. 13) at State Farm Center. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CST, and the contest will be streamed live on Peacock.
