
Wolverines to Close Spring Break at Gator Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's golf team will close its spring break in Gainesville, Florida, at the Gators Invitational, Friday and Saturday (March 1-2) at the Mark Bostick Golf Course. Originally scheduled for the weekend, impending weather has shifted the event up in time and to most likely a 36-hole event.
Notes
• Michigan will make its fourth trip to Florida's home event -- the Gators Invitational. After a third-place (869) showing in 2020, the 2021 event was cancelled due COVID-19. Returning in 2022, the Wolverines used an 851 (-13) total to tie with Florida for the team title. Last season, U-M posted a 10th-place finish in the rain-shortened 36-hole event.
• Individually, former Wolverine great Ashley Lau won the 2022 Gators Invitational with a U-M record 203 (-7) 54-hole total. After an opening 67 and following with a 70, she trailed the overall leader by two shots. With a final round, and career-low, 66 (-4), Lau rallied on win her second straight spring event by a shot. » Recap.
• There will be 14 teams making up the field for the Gator Invitational including #17 Arizona, #99 Campbell, #16 Central Florida, #61 Charleston, #15 Clemson, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, #10 Florida, #47 Miami (Fla.), #49 Michigan, #26 North Carolina, #75 Notre Dame, #13 Ole Miss and Toledo.
• U-M will travel five starters and an individual to the Gator Invitational. Senior Monet Chun, freshman Sidney Yermish, sophomore Sydney Sung, graduate Emilie Paltrinieri and fifth-year senior Hailey Borja make up the Wolverine starters, while sophomore Lauren Sung will play as an invited individual.
• Borja is scheduled to make her 45th career start in Florida as she has not missed an event in her five-year career. Borja ranks eighth all-time for career starts and could catch U-M's all-time leader Laura Olin (50; 2002-05).
• Chun continues to hold the U-M scoring lead with a career-best scoring average 72.44. She has four sub-par tallies, including a U-M fall best 67 (-5) -- twice -- at the Glass City Invitational (final) and the Ruth's Chris Invitational (first). Borja closed with a career-best-pace 73.60 per round. She has six rounds at par-or-below, while finishing in the top 20 in three of five events.
• Yermish is one of two Wolverines to start all five events this season, along with Borja. They averaged 75.60 per round and posted a career-low 68 (-4) in the final round of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational (Oct. 9-10). In the fall finale, Yermish carded a career-best 54-hole with a 220 total at the Stanford Intercollegiate (Oct. 20-22).
