ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team (16-9, 7-6 B1G) will head to Iowa to face the No. 4-ranked Hawkeyes (22-3, 11-2 B1G) on Thursday evening (Feb. 15) at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The game is set for 7 p.m. CST and will air on Peacock as Iowa's Caitlin Clark is just eight points away from being the NCAA Division I scoring leader.
Notes
• Michigan recorded season highs in both field goal percentage (.618) and three-point field goal percentage (.571) in the win over Rutgers (Feb. 10). It was the first time Michigan shot better than 60 percent from the floor since shooting 64.7 percent from the floor against Akron on Dec. 5, 2021. It was the first time Michigan shot at least 60 percent against a Big Ten team since hitting at a 63.0 percent clip at Northwestern on Jan. 3, 2021. Michigan is 2-0 this season when shooting at least 50 percent from the floor.
• Michigan hit the 80-point mark in its 86-58 win over Rutgers (Feb. 10), the third time Michigan has hit the mark in Big Ten action. Michigan is 8-0 this season when scoring at least 80 points.
• U-M is looking for its third win over a top-five team in program history. Michigan has a pair of wins over the No. 5-ranked team, both coming during the 2021-22 season (No. 5 Baylor, No. 5 Indiana). The Wolverines have never won a true road game against a top-five opponent.
• The Wolverines are 1-2 this season against top-25 opponents, getting a 69-60 win over then-No. 17 and now No. 2-ranked Ohio State on Dec. 30.
• Michigan is appearing on Peacock for the first time this season as Iowa's Clark attempts to become the NCAA Division I scoring leader, needing just eight points to pass Kelsey Plum. It will be a sellout at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, with tickets on the resale market ranging from $250 to nearly $10,000 -- at $9,844 each for a pair of courtside tickets.
• A pair of high school teammates will be reunited in Laila Phelia and Iowa's Gabbie Marshall. The two played at Mount Notre Dame and combined to win a state championship in 2019. It is the third time Phelia is facing a fellow Mount Notre Dame grad as the Wolverines have faced Makira Cook and Illinois twice this season.
• This game will feature the top-scoring offense in the Big Ten in Iowa (92.1 ppg) and the top-scoring defense in the Big Ten in Michigan (61.3 ppg). In addition, the teams are two of the best rebounding teams in the conference, with Iowa ranking second in rebounding margin (+8.6) and Michigan in third (+5.2). The teams go about it in different ways, with Iowa leading the league in combined team rebounds (42.3) and Michigan ranking second in combined opponent rebounds at 31.0 per game.
• Cameron Williams scored a career-best 23 points on 10-for-14 shooting last time out against Rutgers (Feb. 10), marking her second straight double-figure scoring game after scoring 14 off the bench against Nebraska (Feb. 6). She has reached double figures in four of Michigan's last six games, averaging 11.7 points per game on 67.3 percent shooting. On the season, Williams is averaging 6.8 points per game on 55.1 percent shooting and 4.9 rebounds in 16.7 minutes per game. She became the 48th Wolverine to appear in 100 career games in her last start against Rutgers.
• Michigan has already had six games this season with at least 10 three-pointers, tying a school record with 14 against SIUE (Nov. 29), hitting 13 twice (at Illinois, Dec. 10; vs. Miami, Dec. 16), going for 12 against Rutgers (Feb. 10) and putting in 10 twice (Eastern Michigan, Nov. 24; Maryland, Jan. 24). It is the first time since the 2017-18 season that Michigan has had multiple games with at least 10 three-pointers. U-M had three instances in that season, including a game in which Katelynn Flaherty set a school record by hitting 10 three-pointers against Penn State (Dec. 28, 2017).
