TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of Michigan softball team used a seventh-inning power surge to earn a 2-1 walk-off win against Oregon State in its final game of the season-opening USF-Rawlings Tournament on Sunday morning (Feb. 11) at USF Softball Stadium.
The Wolverines strung together three big hits to plate two runs in the seventh after trailing for nearly the entire game on an Oregon State solo home run with one out in the top of the first inning.
Sophomore third baseman Maddie Erickson issued the response with one out in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game with a solo shot of her own deep over the leftfield fence for her first long ball of the season.
Freshman outfielder Jenissa Conway kept the rally going in the next at-bat with a roped double to the fence in left centerfield, and sophomore/freshman catcher Lilly Vallimont went to the same location for the game-winner, ripping an RBI walk-off single to drive in Conway from second base.
Freshman RHP Erin Hoehn (1-0) earned her first collegiate win in relief. After allowing a pair of free bases upon entering with one out in the sixth, she retired the final five Beaver batters she faced, with one strikeout, to close out the game. Senior RHP Jessica LeBeau was also strong from the start, striking out six while allowing one run on just three hits and a walk over 5.1 innings pitched.
It was the Wolverines' third comeback win of the tournament in addition to their extra-inning decision yesterday against No. 17 Florida. Michigan went 4-1 over its season-opening weekend.
Michigan (4-1) will return to the Sunshine State next weekend (Fri-Sun., Feb. 16-18) for a five-game slate at the Joan Joyce Classic in Boca Raton, Fla. U-M will open play against Seton Hall at 9 a.m. on Friday and play two games against Maine and single games against Louisville and host FAU.
