Jan. 23 -- Beau Mantanona
Big Ten Freshman Wrestler of the Week
» Beau Mantanona earned two ranked wins on U-M's road trip last weekend, beating Northwestern's No. 18 Max Mayyfield 4-3 and Minnesota's No. 9 Andrew Sparks 7-4.
» He scored two duck-under takedowns in the first period of the Minnesota match for the second top-10 win of his collegiate career.
» Mantanona is 7-1 this season since returning from a first-semester knee injury and surged to No. 10 in this week's updated InterMat rankings at 165 pounds.
» He is the second Mantanona to earn Big Ten Freshman Wrestler of the Week honors; his brother Brock also claimed the recognition last semester.

Big Ten Freshman Wrestler of the Week
» Brock Mantanona earned an 11-3 major decision over No. 12 Nick Hamilton in U-M's dual win at Virginia.
» Mantanona scored three takedowns against Hamilton and accumulated 1:11 in riding time at 165 pounds.
» It was his second bonus win over a ranked opponent in as many dual-meet appearances; he is 6-1 with six bonus wins this season.
» It is Michigan's first-ever Big Ten Freshman Wrestler of the Week; the award was introduced this season.
Nov. 7 -- Joseph Walker
Big Ten Wrestler of the Week
» Joseph Walker captured the 174-pound title at the Clarion Open with a 4-0 record.
» He defeated Clarion's 28th-ranked John Worthing 4-2 in the final bout.
» He earned bonus points in his other three wins with one fall and two major decisions.
» It is the first Big Ten Wrestler of the Week of the 2024-25 season and the first for Walker in his career.
