
Young Selected for Second Straight Master’U

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Gavin Young of the University of Michigan men's tennis team has been selected to compete at the Master'U BNP Paribas Championship in Reims, France. This is the second consecutive year Young has been selected to compete.
A native of Apple Valley, Minn., Young is one of three U.S. men's players, joining Michael Zheng (Columbia) and Sebastian Gorzy (Texas). They join women's players Mary Stoiana (Texas A&M), Amelia Honer (UCSB), and Savannah Broadus (Pepperdine).
The event begins on Friday, Nov. 29, with the champion crowned on Sunday, Dec. 1. Competing teams include Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Matches will consist of two men's and women's singles, one men's and women's doubles, and one mixed doubles. The country that wins four of these seven matches will be crowned the champion.
The U.S. has won 10 of the past 11 championships and 11 overall in the tournament's 16-year history. Young was part of the winning team last year, while former Wolverines Patrick Maloney won in 2023 and Evan King in 2012.
Young will also compete in the 2024 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship starting Tuesday (Nov. 19). His first-round match is against his soon-to-be-teammate Gorzy. Currently 8-3, Young is ranked No. 7 in the nation. He and his doubles partner, Benjamin Kittay, begin play on Wednesday (Nov. 20). The pair are 6-1 and ranked No. 17.
