Strong Second Half Powers U-M to Lopsided Win Over Miami (Ohio)

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team outscored Miami (Ohio) 50-31 to defeat the RedHawks 94-67 on Monday (Nov. 18), winning the bracket crossover game as part of the Fort Myers Tipoff.
Leaders and Best
Four Wolverines scored in double figures, with Nimari Burnett leading the way with 18 points and four assists. Tre Donaldson added 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting, along with four assists. L.J. Cason added 11 points, while Roddy Gayle Jr. scored 10 points and dished out five assists.
First Half
Turnovers plagued Michigan (3-1) early, with four turnovers through the first three minutes prompting head coach Dusty May to swap out the starting lineup. Throughout the opening 20 minutes, Michigan turned the ball over 12 times, with Miami (2-2) scoring nine points off the turnovers.
The second unit helped U-M respond with a 10-2 run, going 5-for-7 from the field over the next four minutes. Cason provided a jolt of energy off the bench, scoring four of the run's 10 points and eight points overall in the opening period.
Miami responded with a run of its own, scoring eight unanswered points over a minute-and-a-half span to go up 22-20. Burnett added some key minutes, knocking down a pair of three-pointers as both teams traded baskets.
Trailing 30-27 with 4:05 to go, U-M closed out the half to take a 44-36 lead. Donaldson took charge, scoring eight points during the run.
Second Half
Donaldson picked things up from where he left off at the end of the first half, scoring five points as the Wolverines outscored Miami 15-4 in the first six minutes. Cason, Rubin Jones, and Will Tschetter each hit a three-pointer to extend the run, and by the second media timeout, U-M led 67-45.
Michigan took better care of the ball in the second half, turning the ball over just six times. The offense continued to shoot at an impressive rate, going 58 percent from the field and 54 percent from three-point range in the second half. While holding Miami to 36 percent from the field and 20 percent from three-point range in the period, the Wolverines continued to grow their lead.
Throughout the second half, the Wolverines outscored Miami 50-31. Burnett added 10 second-half points and three assists, while Gayle contributed seven points and three assists.
What's Next
Michigan will host Tarleton State at the Crisler Center on Thursday (Nov. 15) at 8:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on BTN.

• Donaldson's 16-point performance marks his fourth straight game in double figures, tying his career-high set against Cleveland State on Nov. 4.• Donaldson has now made at least two three-pointers in each of the first four games.
• Sam Walters continues to shoot at an efficient rate from three-point range, improving to 62 percent from behind the arc on the season.
• Goldin surpassed the 1,200 career-point mark (1,205) with eight points vs. Miami.
• With the win, Goldin also won his 100th career game.
• And with one block, Goldin sits two blocks away from 150 in his career.
• In the first matchup against Miami since 2006, Michigan improved to 6-1 all-time against the RedHawks.
