MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Michigan women's cross country team finished 31st at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals on Saturday (Oct. 19).
BYU (105) finished first on the day, while Washington (157) took second. Northern Arizona (166) placed third, followed by West Virginia (207) in fourth and Notre Dame (216) in fifth.
Penelopea Gordon paced the Wolverines in the first race of the day, sitting in 99th place at the 2K mark. Mary Caroline Heinen was in 150th, with Samantha Hastie (152nd) and Rylee Tolson (154th) close behind.
With two kilometers remaining, Gordon remained Michigan's lead runner in 113th place, while Heinen improved 23 spots to 127th. Jadyn Zdanavage also made progress, moving from 191st to 177th.
Gordon finished first for the Wolverines, climbing 33 spots to 80th with a personal best time of 20:28.8. Heinen was next, finishing 119th (20:45.2), followed by Kayla Windemuller in 151st (21:00.2), and Zdanavage, who posted a personal best of 21:10.1 to finish 175th.
In the second race of the day, Lisa Luecke led Michigan with an eighth-place finish, clocking 21:11.9. Haley Deighan followed in 17th (21:28.2), with Leah Hill in 37th (21:50.7) and Anjali Hocker Singh in 52nd (22:12.0). Both Luecke and Deighan set personal bests.
The Wolverines will return home to close out the regular season at the EMU Fall Classic in Dexter, Mich., on Friday, Oct. 25.
