Notes
• Michigan is out to snap a two-game losing streak after dropping back-to-back contests to Indiana and Minnesota. U-M has not lost three straight since the 2015-16 season (Jan. 21-28, 2016). Prior to this stretch, U-M was 3-0 following a defeat this season after going 7-2 after a loss last year.
• Michigan is concluding a two-game homestand against Wisconsin. U-M is 7-1 this season at Crisler Center, scoring 78.8 points per game on 47.1 percent shooting while allowing just 53.6 points per game on 36.2 percent shooting to its opponents. The Wolverines have three players in double-figure scoring at Crisler in Laila Phelia (14.0), Lauren Hansen (12.1) and Elissa Brett (11.9) - the latter two above their season averages. U-M is averaging 9.3 three-pointers per game at home on 41.8 percent shooting.
• The Wolverines still rank first in the Big Ten in scoring defense at 58.4 points per game. Wisconsin is 14th in the conference in scoring offense at 66.1 points per game.
• This is Michigan's last game at Crisler Center until the Wolverines host Maryland on Jan. 24.
• Phelia has broken out as Big Ten play has resumed, upping her scoring average to 19.8 points per game against conference opponents. She is third in the conference in scoring in Big Ten games, recording two 20-point games. Phelia has also increased her field goal percentage to .426 in Michigan's four conference contests. She had her best game of the season against No. 17 Ohio State (Dec. 30), scoring a career-best 26 points. She scored 17 of her points in the second half, including nine in the final period as U-M rallied for the win. Phelia followed that up with 23 points at No. 14 Indiana (Jan. 4), marking her fifth 20-point game of the season. In an expanded role during her junior season, Phelia is averaging 15.7 points per game and has scored in double figures in all but three games. She is closing in on the 1,000-point mark with 939 career points.Â
• U-M leads the Big Ten in offensive rebounding (14.3 per game), turning those into 13.1 second-chance points per game. U-M also is third in the conference in rebounding margin at +8.9, taking advantage of the offensive rebounds and holding opponents to just 30.1 caroms per game. The Wolverines have outrebounded their opponent in all but four games, going 11-1 when grabbing more. U-M is 0-4 when being outrebounded. Wisconsin enters the game last in the conference in rebounding margin at -1.6.
• Jordan Hobbs has become a regular starter in her third year in the Maize and Blue, averaging a career-best 9.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. She has 146 points on the season, just one away from eclipsing last year's total of 147 points (4.9 per game). She is one of three Wolverines to start all 16 games and has even switched positions in the last seven games. Hobbs is playing a career-high 25.6 minutes per game, ranking third on the team in that category and fourth in rebounding (3.8 rpg).
• It's been a simple equation for Michigan this season -- scoring leads to winning. U-M is averaging just 57.0 points per game in its four losses, down from its season average of 71.6 points per game. Michigan has also allowed 74.6 points per game in its five defeats, up from its season average of 58.4 points per game. In wins, U-M is up to 78.3 points per game while allowing just 51.1.
