
Milligan Claims Silver on One-Meter Springboard on Day Two of Big Tens

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team remains in third place after three podium finishes on day three of the Big Ten Championships on Thursday (Feb. 16) inside Canham Natatorium.
Katie Crom kicked off the second day of the Big Ten Championships in the 500-yard freestyle with a third-place finish, earning an NCAA B-cut with a time of 4:39.05. In the B-final Kathryn Shanley touched the wall sixth and Megan Glass touched seventh. Riley Francis swam her way to a first-place finish in the C-final with a new personal best time of 4:45.03.
In the 200-yard IM, Letitia Sim and Devon Kitchel showed out and finished fifth and sixth. Sim swam 1:56.20 earning an NCAA B-cut, while Kitchel swam 1:56.36 for a new personal best time and an NCAA B-cut. In the B-final, Claire Donan finished fourth with a time of 1:59.17 and an NCAA B-cut.
Michigan qualified five Wolverines in the 50-yard freestyle, four earned NCAA B-cuts and three swam personal best. In the A-final, Lindsay Flynn swam a blistering 21.99 for a sixth-place finish, while Brady Kendall swam 22.35 to tie for seventh place. Claire Newman and Natalie Kan finished fourth and fifth in the B-final, while Casey Chung finished seventh in the C-final.
In the last race of the night, the quartet of Chung, Sim, Brady and Flynn raced to a third-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:31.75 to earn NCAA A-cut.
On the diving side, Kiarra Milligan and Lucy Hogan qualified for the A-final on the one-meter springboard. Milligan scored 314.85 points to finish second, while Hogan finished sixth with 308.10 points. Milligan's performance is the best Big Ten finish by a U-M female diver since Elyse Lee took second on three-meter springboard in 2007.
The Wolverines will return to the pool Friday (Feb. 17) in Canham Natatorium for day three of the Big Ten Championships. Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. and finals start at 5:30 p.m.
