
Michigan Finishes Third at Big Ten Championships

MADISON, Wis. -- Behind top-15 finishes by Kayla Windemuller and Lani Bloom, the University of Michigan women's cross country team secured a third-place finish at the Big Ten Championships on Friday (Oct. 27) at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course.
No. 15-ranked Michigan State scored 46 points to win the Big Ten title. Host No. 22 Wisconsin (81 points) took second with the Wolverines (102 points), Penn State (136 points) and Ohio State (154 points) completing the top five.
Windemuller paced the Maize and Blue for the fifth time this season, clocking a 6K time of 21:14.2 to finish seventh overall. Through the first 2,000 meters of the race, Windemuller found herself in the middle of a large lead pack, checking in 10th through the first third of the race. She picked up five spots to hold fifth overall at the 4K mark before crossing the line in seventh.
In her first Big Ten Championships, Bloom continued to pick up speed throughout the course. She started the race in 42nd but gained 30 spots over the final 4,000 meters to finish 12th and earn an All-Big Ten honor.
Samantha Saenz posted a time of 21:42.8 to finish 18th. Lisa Luecke and Samantha Hastie rounded out the scoring for U-M, registering marks of 22:03.7 and 22:10.9, respectively.
Michigan will return to Thomas Zimmer Championship Course in two weeks for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday, Nov. 10 at 11:30 a.m. CDT.
