
Windemuller, Saenz Lead Michigan to Fourth-Place Finish at NCAA Great Lakes Regional

MADISON, Wis. -- Led by a top-10 effort from Kayla Windemuller, the University of Michigan women's cross country team finished fourth with 150 points at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday (Nov. 10) at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
Windemuller got off to a strong start, staying in the lead pack and checking in at 15th overall through two kilometers. She picked up the pace through the final 4K and finished eighth with a time of 20:35.7 to capture All-Region honors.
Joining Windemuller on the All-Region team was Samantha Saenz, who clocked a 20:53.1 to finish 17th overall. Saenz took hold of 17th place at the 4K mark and held steady through the final 2,000 meters to log a top-25 result.
Tilly Simpson was the next Wolverine to cross the line, logging a 21:14.8 to secure 34th overall. Like Windemuller, Simpson steadily gained positions throughout the race, starting 64th before passing 30 runners to earn a top-35 finish.
Reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year Lani Bloom registered a mark of 21:19.4 and finished 39th overall in her first NCAA Regional appearance, and Samantha Hastie posted a time of 21:28.8, rounding out the scoring for the Maize and Blue. Lisa Luecke and Hannah Pricco finished 66th and 67th, respectively, to close out the day for Michigan.
The Wolverines will learn their NCAA Championships fate during the NCAA Selection Show, which will be streamed live Saturday (Nov. 11) at 5 p.m. on NCAA.com. If selected, Michigan will head to Charlottesville, Va., for the NCAA Championships.
