
Wolverine Women Win Three Events, Lead Arizona on Day One of Wisconsin Tri-Meet

MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the first day of competition at the Wisconsin Tri-Meet at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center on Friday (Oct. 20). At the end of the opening session, Michigan leads Arizona, 134-65, and trails Wisconsin, 130-85.
The Wolverines collected two individual wins and accumulated 11 podium finishes against the Badgers and Wildcats.
Kathryn Ackerman won the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:16.16, outracing the next closest swimmer by more than two seconds.
U-M's second and third wins on the day came at the dive well as Kiarra Milligan swept the one-meter and three-meter dives. The Maize and Blue took the top three spots in the one-meter dive as Chrismon Clark and Taylor Peters joined Milligan on the podium. Peters also finished second in the three-meter competition.
In  the relays, the foursome of Casey Chung, Devon Kitchel, Natalie Kan and Lindsay Flynn posted a time of 3:42.01 to finish third in the 400-yard medley relay. Flynn, Claire Newman, Brady Kendall and Kan combined to secure second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 1:30.92.
Freshman Hannah Bellard grabbed third in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a mark of 9:57.51 while fellow first-year Mattea Sokolow finished fourth, touching the wall at 9:58.06.
Chung logged the second-fastest time in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:57.90. The trio of Flynn, Newman and Kendall finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle.
Katie Crom added to Michigan's podium tally with a third-place result in the 200-yard freestyle, registering a time of 1:48.80.
Michigan will conclude the Wisconsin Tri-Meet on Saturday (Oct. 21) at 9:30 a.m. CT at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center.
