» Haley McDonald and Lucy Rooney each led two individual events, with McDonald taking the 100 breast and 100 IM and Rooney the 100 back and 200 free.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team joined Calvin and Hope in honoring the late Ian Miskelley to open the home portion of the 2026-27 season, hosting the TEAM BE BETTER; Invitational on Friday (Sept. 25) at Canham Natatorium.
The non-scoring meet featured a full slate of swimming and diving events, with the Wolverines turning in several top performances throughout the afternoon.
U-M opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as Kamryn Meskill, Cecilia Howard, Gioia Balzano and Ariana Zhao combined for a time of 1:42.87.
Anna Boemer touched first in the 100-yard butterfly in 55.68 seconds, while Lucy Rooney posted the top time in the 100-yard backstroke at 54.62. Haley McDonald led the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.99, and Stephanie Balduccini paced the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.57.
Marian Ploger recorded the top time in the 500-yard freestyle at 4:56.86. McDonald added a 57.03 in the 100-yard IM, while Rooney led the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.91.
On the diving boards, graduate transfer Charlotte Martinkus posted the top score in the one-meter competition with 258.55 points, while Mia Henninger led the three-meter competition with 291.10 points.
In addition to the traditional events, Michigan also competed in a few fun events, including the 50-yard underwater with fins and the 25-yard mystery races. Lexi Greenhawt posted the top time in the underwater event at 20.40, while McKinley Scobie led the mystery shootout.
The Maize and Blue wrapped up the women's competition with Balzano, Montse Spielmann, Bella Sims and Ploeger posting the top time in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 3:27.55.
Michigan will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 9, hitting the pool against Pittsburgh inside Canham Natatorium at 2 p.m., while the remainder of the team travels to Knoxville, Tenn., to compete in the second round of the College Swimming League at 5:30 p.m. inside Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
